Ferrite Microwave Technologies (FMT) waveguide loads are available for high power applications in waveguide sizes from WR28 through WR2300. Typically, loads absorb power and convert it to heat. They can also be referred to as “dummy loads.” The cooling mediums for loads vary, as they can be air cooled or water cooled. Loads use different materials to absorb the power such as: water, ethylene or propylene glycol mixture, silicon carbide, or lossy ferrite material.

Examples of Different Types of Loads
Depending upon power level, frequency, system operating parameters, and application – different types of waveguide loads may be employed. These include water loads and dry loads. Below are images of some common types of loads.
Waveguide Loads: FMT Capabilities
Ferrite Microwave Technologies offers a wide variety of waveguide loads. As a Microwave Techniques company, we have our own line of legacy FMT loads, along with Mega Industries legacy line, and the FXR dummy load product line.
An overview of FMT’s design capabilities for waveguide loads includes:
- Waveguide, Coaxial, & Vacuum Loads
- Air Cooled, Water Cooled & Water Coupled
- Super High Power Loads, Test Terminations, Short Circuits & Custom Systems Loads
- Stand-alone components or integrated with circulators and/or integrated assemblies
- FXR Dummy Loads product line available to satisfy minimum cost and weight objectives
Loads from Low to Ultra-High Power
Our comprehensive line of loads supports power levels ranging from low to ultra-high power. Typically, for low to medium applications, air cooled loads are a suitable fit. However, in high to ultra-high power applications, water cooled loads may be a more suitable fit. For most legacy Ferrite Microwave Technologies components, we offer all standard industry flange configurations, as well as interfaces for mating to custom applications.

Waveguide Loads: Mega & FXR
The FXR line of dummy loads is a Microwave Techniques brand, previously acquired by Mega Industries. These style “dummy loads” are designed for rugged, high power applications. These are designed to satisfy minimum cost and weight objectives. The FXR product line covers five configurations: (1) Unfinned [WE Series], (2) Finned [WF Series], (3) Super High Power [WG Series], (4) Liquid Cooled High Power [WL Series], and (5) Miniturized Units and Inserts [WD and WZ Series]. This product line is available in sizes from WR28 to WR650, covering a frequency range of 1.12 to 40 GHz.
In addition to FXR dummy loads, Mega also offers its own legacy high power loads, test terminations, and short circuits. To learn more about Mega Industries loads, terminations, and short circuits, please click here to visit their webiste.
