Waveguide Components for Weather Radar

Ferrite Microwave Technologies (FMT) manufactures a diverse range of high-power waveguide components for weather radar applications. FMT has long supported the weather radar industry with circulators, duplexers, and loads as standalone units. To increase the value of our microwave design engineering and test expertise, we’ve also supplied assemblies comprised of mutliple components, delivered fully electrically and mechanically ready for system integration.

Weather Radar: Special Project Example

The most notable special project of Ferrite supplying waveguide components for weather radar was the NEXRAD Dual Polarization Upgrade. FMT supplied all WSR-88D sites with a fully integrated RF pallet, ready for installation on the Antenna Pedestal. Typically, these pallets are comprised of Circulators, Duplexers, High Power Loads, Directional Couplers, Phase Shifters, Switches, Hybrid Couplers, pressure ports, arc detector sections, E & H-Plane Waveguide Bends, Flex Sections, along with mounting and support brackets. An example of one RF pallet for weather radar is seen below.
